Who Are We?

Postman is the world’s leading API platform, used by more than 25 million developers and 500,000 organizations, including 98% of the Fortune 500. Postman is helping developers and professionals across the globe build the API-first world by simplifying each step of the API lifecycle and streamlining collaboration—enabling users to create better APIs, faster.

The company is headquartered in San Francisco and has an office in Bangalore, where it was founded. Postman is privately held, with funding from Battery Ventures, BOND, Coatue, CRV, Insight Partners, and Nexus Venture Partners. Learn more at postman.com or connect with Postman on Twitter via @getpostman.

Our team joined Postman through the acquisition of Akita and currently operates as a startup within Postman.

We highly recommend reading The "API-First World" graphic novel to understand the bigger picture and our vision at Postman.

The Opportunity:

With Postman Insights, our vision is to help guide a developer with little previous experience—in both the system being monitored and the Postman API Platform—to productively find and fix issues. Our goal is to be able to help any developer locate API endpoints causing potential issues within 15 minutes of signing up for an account. This will empower even a new developer to find and fix issues in their first days on the job, as easily as they can call an API today.

We’ve been working towards the early access launch of Live Insights. Today, the alpha launch focuses on the Insights Agent, which passively watches your API traffic to automatically populate a Postman collection with API endpoints. Within just 15 minutes of installing the Insights Agent in staging or production, you’ll start seeing endpoints show up in your collection, along with dashboards of endpoint performance. Live Insights aims to be the fastest, easiest way for developers to see what endpoints they have, what’s slow, and what’s throwing errors.

We’re currently working with our early users to figure out how to surface this information in the most helpful ways. Read more here about our vision.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop and execute research plans for two kinds of research: 0-to-1 research to understand the state of the world without our product, and user testing to understand where to improve our product. Drive alignment across the team on user needs and UX goals.
  • Strong UX skills. Is obsessed with understanding user needs in a disciplined way in order to drive collaboration and alignment on user flows. Is able to translate these requirements into simple, intuitive user experiences.
  • Scrappy. Gets excited about figuring out the minimal way to build the next feature.
  • Good product sense. Deeply understands their user is able to work closely with the product lead and engineers to come up with well-scoped designs that hit user goals.
  • Moves fast. We’re going to be prototyping and iterating with our alpha users weekly. We’re looking for someone who is excited about this cadence.
  • Excellent communication skills. We’re a remote-first team and they’re going to be the only designer and the design advocate for the team. Good communication is key.
  • Good sense of engineering tradeoffs involved in different design decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with product and engineering to design a completely new kind of product, based on the innovative technology we’ve built. Run meetings, lead jam sessions, and create artifacts to drive collaboration and alignment across the entire team around design goals.
  • Iterate with alpha users on a weekly basis to continually improve the product.
  • Based in the Bay Area.

About You:

  • 5+ years of UX-focused design experience. Experience with user research required. Ability to design UIs required.
  • Track record of delivery. Impressive portfolio of past projects launched.
  • Experience driving design process for a 0-to-1 process. Experience making research plans, setting design roadmaps, leading collaboration on design requirements, and driving alignment on design goals.
  • Experience doing information architecture work involving data-heavy frontends (graphs; charts; email clients) that require performance work. Doesn’t need to be in developer tools; finance apps are another good example.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience working on developer tools.

We’re moving fast, so we’re looking for someone based in the Bay Area who can come into the San Francisco office at least once a week.
